Dear Teachers’ Defined Contribution Retirement System (TDC) Member:
During the 2008 First Special Session, the West Virginia Legislature passed House Bill 101 regarding retirement benefits for teachers and educational service personnel which became effective Sunday, March 16, 2008. The legislation provides an opportunity for members of the Teachers’ Defined Contribution Retirement System (TDC) to elect to transfer to the West Virginia Teachers’ Retirement System (TRS).
For the transfer to occur, at least 65% of members who were actively contributing to TDC as of December 31, 2007, must affirmatively elect to transfer to TRS during the election period. All TDC members are eligible to voluntarily elect to transfer whether or not they were actively contributing on December 31, 2007. The statutory election period for all TDC members is April 1st through May 12th, 2008. As soon as it is available, the CPRB will post Enrolled House Bill 101 on its Website, www.wvretirement.com.
If you were an actively contributing member of TDC as of December 31, 2007, you will soon be receiving a personalized statement of your retirement benefits and other educational materials to assist you in making your selection. I have enclosed a voluntary transfer form should you chose to do so. The legislation allows you to submit the transfer form to your worksite supervisor who will send the form to the accounting firm listed below and provide you with a receipt. If you prefer, you can personally mail your form after April 1, 2008, to the following address:
